How To Make A Conditioning Hot Oil Treatment – Give Hair Extra Nourishment – Using a conditioning hot oil treatment on the hair once a week can really give that extra nourishment it longs for.

Not everyone will want to part with their hard earned money to splash out on expensive treatments – but the good news is you don’t have to. Listen up – you can make an effective hot oil treatment in your own home without emptying out your pockets. Sound good? Read on.

We can perhaps thank the Italians for this – their olive oil rich diet really shows in their luxurious long dark locks. Olives or olive oil is one of the best organic ingredients that can provide a natural defense against dry or brittle hair.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money on olive oil and most of you will probably own a bottle for the purpose of cooking anyway. Olive oil helps from within but also using it directly on the hair as a conditioning treatment can give extra elasticity and mega shine!

Let me run you through the process of how to make your very own conditioning hot oil treatment. All you will need is about half a cup of olive oil, a microwave, shower cap and a wide-toothed comb. Lets go:

Make sure that your cup or bowel is microwave proof. Add the olive oil (half a cup as mentioned before) and heat for a length of 30 seconds.

Now this is best carried out in your bathroom, so head there with your hot olive oil. So far so good.

Step 1.

You might want to stand in the bath so as not to cause a mess. Smooth the olive oil onto your hair with your fingers. Concentrate it more at the roots and the ends of the hair shaft.

Step 2.

Once you are satisfied that the oil is well massaged into the hair, place the shower cap over your head.

Step 3.

It is up to you now whether you choose to relax while it does it’s work or if you want to continue with something else – I recommend staying indoors though whilst your still in your cap! For the best results, leave the cap on for a good half an hour.

Step 4.

Once the time is up you can get back under the shower and give your hair a cool rinse, washing it with shampoo to remove the oil. Massage the scalp well and you might even want to wash twice to make sure all the oil is lifted out of the hair.

Step 5.

Condition the hair as usual and run a wide-toothed comb through it. Let it dry naturally if you can and be prepared to see instant results!

Just a warning or two – never overheat the oil. As a rule, if it is too hot to touch it will also be too hot to apply to hair. The treatment only needs to be carried once a week for well nourished hair and don’t forget that using olive oil in cooking and in dressings will also condition the hair from within.

One of the evils of drying out hair is heat. Simply put, heat makes moisture evaporate and heat whether from over-exposure to the sun or your straightening irons, can and will strip the hair of it’s natural oils.

So you can really help your hair’s condition by laying off your heating tools. If you can, let the hair dry naturally and only use a hairdryer if you are preparing for an evening out or special event.

Your hairdryer has a low heat setting for a reason – use it! Wear a hat or a leave in conditioner with UV protection if you intend to be out in it for a long time.

Curly Hair Tips – Keep Your Curls In Top Condition - Now I have a good friend whose hair is naturally curly, real corkscrew curls that I simply adore.

Yes! you could even say that I am jealous! It hasn’t always been easy though and I have lost count of the hours, days, weeks where I have had to sympathize with her about the traumas that can come with taking care of curly hair – you know frizz, breakages etc.

Some days, she was literally reduced to tears because she couldn’t cope with the demands of her unruly hair.

Well, there came a time that I just couldn’t see or watch those tears anymore – so being the good friend that I am (she will vouch for that!) – I did some research and started to teach her how best to take care of her curly mass of hair.

My friend hasn’t looked back since and her hair always looks immaculate even when she hasn’t done anything special with it. She wears her mane with pride and turns heads at every corner – even now I can’t believe the change in her – a new found confidence and if you like – a new woman.

So, getting to the point – I want to share those exact same tips with you today in my article about keeping curls in top condition. If you, like my friend have gone through or still are going through a love/hate relationship with your curls, then it is time to change that attitude and make steps towards caring for your hair in the best possible way.

Find a Stylist with Curly Hair

On the day that I decided to help my friend and banish her hair problems for good – I dragged her down to a local salon where I knew of a great stylist with curly hair. It should have been obvious that a stylist who has curls themselves, is going to know a great deal more about how to cut and style curly hair.

She looked so stunning when she stepped out there, I wish I had called for a red carpet to really capture the moment!

Identify What Type of Curls You Have

Having a good stylist is perhaps the first step, but you also have to know how to take care of your hair every other day of the year. It may sound stupid, as you have already spent every day of your lives with your curls, but take a moment to get to know your hair.

By this I mean identifying the type of curls you have and also the texture of your hair. This is going to help you when choosing products that are best for your curls. My friend also had very fine hair, so she had to take that into account when choosing the right conditioner etc.

Avoid Washing Your Hair too Often

One fault that many people make is washing the hair too often. This can further dry out hair that in the case of curly types, can be dry anyway. Wash hair twice a week and use a daily leave in conditioner. This is the best practice for keeping curly hair healthy and shiny.

Blot Dry the Hair with a Towel after Washing

Never rub or pull around with the hair after washing, just blotting it with a towel so that it is partially dry is the best way. Let it dry naturally then if you can instead of using a hairdryer – a tool you should only use for emergencies. Also, use a wide-toothed comb to prevent snagging the hair and damaging it.

How To Cut Your Own Hair – Cutting your Own Hair - Have you ever wondered if you could cut the costs of a trip to the salon by cutting or trimming your own hair? Well you can and it really is not as hard as you might have thought it to be. It is a big first step to cutting your own hair but after a few goes at it, it will become second nature.

You don’t need to splash out on fancy equipment neither, you surely have a comb, a mirror and the only other thing you will need is scissors especially to cut the hair (Don’t make the mistake of using paper scissors whatever you do!)

When I say cutting or trimming – I mean just that. Unless you have studied the art of hairstyling, I would never suggest that you try to give yourself a new style – but rather learn how to maintain your existing style. If you have naturally curly hair, it can be more difficult to trim up than those with straight hair – so if you are in any doubts I would continue going to the salon.

Here are a few pointers to have a look through before we get down to business:

STEP 1
It is recommended to cut hair when it is wet or at least damp. If you choose to cut hair when it is bone dry, there is a higher chance of breakage or split ends.

STEP 2
Be patient when cutting your hair and go through it taking small sections at a time rather than large clumps.

STEP 3
If you want an overall shorter cut to your existing style, again be patient and cut little by little. If you are not careful you could end up with uneven lengths that will bring on another attempt to cut it – before you know you will end up with a Pixie do!

STEP 4
One method is to throw your hair forward in front of your face and cut an even line across. This will, once flipped back over, create a more natural form as opposed to seriously straight.

Now when you are ready, just check you have the relevant tools at hand and a mirror which allows you to see the back image of your hair as well as the front. Then dry the hair enough that it is no longer dripping, followed by a good comb through the lengths to take out any tangles.

For shorter hairstyles: Using a comb, ease a small section of the hair away from the head and take it firmly between the middle finger and index finger. Position the fingers towards the end and aim to trim about half an inch to an inch. Continue around the head making sure you are trimming the same amount each time. For longer hairstyles: Easier still, comb through sections of the hair and trim the ends piece by piece until they are even.

It might be that you had a bad experience the last time you had your hair cut – you went too short or your stylist got too snip happy. I know some of you are praying to find out how to make the hair grow faster so my intentions of writing this article is to share some of my tips of speeding up the process.

You should understand though, that there really are no miracles to rapid hair growth and you are not going to wake up one morning a completely new woman – it will take some time and you have to be patient. I don’t like to be the bearer of bad news, but anyone who has thinning hair, fine hair or badly damaged hair – you are going to have the hardest time when attempting to grow the hair long. It is just because these hair types are generally weaker and you might have to regularly trim them to keep the ends in good condition.

STEP 3
For anyone though, don’t be fooled in thinking that hair will grow longer if you entirely avoid having a trim. Go at least once every 2-3 months to trim the ends. The longer the hair is, the more tendency it has for split ends – which ultimately don’t give a very desirable look.

STEP 4
One of the main protagonists to healthy hair is a healthy diet. In particular, nutritionists claim that a diet with sufficient amounts of protein, vitamins A, B, C, E and K will be helpful when you wish to grow long hair.

Try increasing your dosage of protein rich foods such as oily fish, seeds and nuts. Also soy products and dark leafy veg should be included in your diet. On a general note, a bad diet can lead to many health problems whether big or small. Any stress put on the body will have bad side affects on your hair too – cut down on the nasties such as alcohol, caffeine, sugar, salt and if I can also include smoking to that list.

STEP 4
It is worth investing in a good hairbrush and comb that will be gentle on your hair and once a week using an intensive conditioner on the lengths of the hair. Ditch the ‘wash and go’ attitude – instead take a little extra time to really massage your scalp when washing. This will increase blood flow to the head and stimulate the hair follicles to grow.

STEP 5
One last tip for anyone who wants to Grow Hair Fast- remember that obsessive brushing, the use of styling tools, coloring, chlorine and too much sun/cold exposure can damage the hair and slow down the growing process. If you feel comfortable to – wear a hat when the sun’s rays are too strong or if there is a frost outside. Otherwise use a leave in conditioner with protective ingredients against the elements.

There are a number of methods you can use to speed up hair growth depending on the root cause and one’s objective. Note though that there is no one single solution that can be said to be perfect and applicable in all circumstances; the effectiveness of each solution will depend on a number of unique factors that define each circumstance.

STEP 1.
One of the things you can do is to treat your hair gently. At the least, this will ensure that the natural falling out of your hair takes place at a normal pace. When grooming wet hair, avoid using a narrow tooth comb and instead go for the wide tooth variety. The narrow-tooth comb can easily be hooked in the curls of the hair and lead to breakage. What you eat is also of great importance. Just like the absence of certain key nutrients in one’s diet can lead to diseases and growth retardation, the hair, being part of the body also needs nourishing for it to grow healthily.
