How to Get Rid of Underarm Hair
Underarm hair is not only unsightly but can also be unhygienic and unlike in times past when this would have been considered something of concern to women, more and more men are breaking with tradition and getting rid of underarm hair.
Underarm hair begins to develop at adolescence with the hair getting thicker as one gets older. Ever noticed that even when you do not cut underarm hair, it does not grow beyond a certain length? That is right; unlike scalp hair, underarm hair does not grow beyond 3 inches. Armpit hair can indeed be a nuisance and can render even the best underarm deodorant or antiperspirant ineffective.
How to get rid of Underarm Hair.
STEP 1.
The first is probably the oldest method known: shaving. It is by far the most inexpensive and probably the easiest way to do it, especially if you are looking for a quick do-it-yourself solution. You can use anyone of the many shaving instruments available in the market including a simple shaver or a razor blade. If you opt to use a shaver or razor blade, you will need a shaving gel.
For the best results, use a new razor. Never use a blunt razor or one that has been used by another person as this could transfer disease-causing germs. Wet the skin thoroughly and apply shaving gel to keep the skin soft and moist. This makes it easier to shave. Since underarm hair does not grow in one direction, do not only shave in one directional grain; rather, shave in several different directions.
If you think you need to do more than one swipe, apply more shaving gel. Once you are satisfied with the results, rinse your armpit and dry with a towel. Finally, apply moisturizer or oil. The main drawback with this method of getting rid of hair is that however close and clean the shave is hair will still grow again after just 2 to 3 days.
STEP 2.
The second approach you can use is applying depilatory cream. Simply spread the cream under your arm then leave it for a few minutes.
Finally, rinse with water. After you apply the cream, make sure your arms do not touch either side of your body so that the cream can have maximum effect. After the rinsing with water, the hair should fall off. You may want to take a shower to get rid of the cream’s odor. This method is more effective than shaving because it keeps the hair at bay for a number of weeks.
STEP 3.
Another increasingly popular means for getting rid of body hair is waxing. You can do this yourself too by using either hot or cold wax. The preference for many though is to have someone else to do it for them (e.g. their beautician) as one may experience when the hair is yanked off. Waxing leaves a clean and smooth feel that can last for a couple of weeks. Hair grows back finer because the wax removes hair follicles below the surface of the skin.
STEP 4.
If your goal is permanent hair removal, then you may want to consider laser hair removal. The laser light destroys the hair follicle and the cells responsible for hair growth. The method is relatively expensive and one has to go through several sessions before all the hair is out.
